The Salvation Army is located at 69 Bourke Street. Worship services around the Inner City are targeted to individuals' needs and include congregations largely consisting of the homeless, socially disadvantaged groups, Cantonese, Russian, Spanish, University students and more conventional congregations. The Salvation Army is an international movement and an evangelical branch of the universal Christian Church. It believes that all people have been created in the image and in the likeness of God and have intrinsic worth. It recognises that not all people equally share in the benefits of Melbourne life and it is imperative that options exist for the most disadvantaged.
This mission is both spiritual and practical, encompassing the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and alleviating human suffering and distress without discrimination.
